Acid Survivors' Foundation Uganda (ASFU) was established in 2003.  It is a registered non governmentaI organisation that operates across Uganda with offices in its capital city Kampala.

ASFU is responsible for identifying ways of stopping acid violence.  The organization networks with other organizations relevant in preventing the spread of acid violence through advocacy and the implementation of a wide variety of public education programs. The Foundation also continues to play an important role to make acid violence a matter of urgent public concern.

We work closely with the Government of Uganda (GOU), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and civil society to lobby for  legal reforms, systems and services for protection and promotion of the rights of the survivors and to develop an effective and efficient response to combat and eliminate acid violence in Uganda.

Why was the ASFU started?

Dr Ben Khingi,  surgeon at Mulago Hospital, realised that the trauma caused to survivors of acid assaults required more than medical intervention. He motivated the survivors to come together for mutual support which evolved into Acid Survivors' Foundation Uganda (ASFU)
